Just Another Wall — Discover
A wish you have not yet discovered
You’ve found my secret, haven’t you? You’re craftier than most, I knew you’d uncover it eventually. Truth be told I didn’t even try to hide it all that much. In fact, I think I wanted you to find it. And here you are. The real you, not some pen-and-paper stand-in. And now you’ve gone beyond what you were meant to see, as have I. Isn’t it exciting? Now that we’ve both taken a glance behind the curtain, what say we tear them down altogether. I’ll show you mine if you show me yours.
Surprise is a good look on you! That’s right, I know. You thought I wouldn’t notice. That I wasn’t attentive, or curious, or interested enough. Really, you should have known better from the start. I suspected something from the moment we met. As a seasoned bringer of consequence, that I should find sweetest satisfaction upon the barter of life and limb was immediately intriguing. I had to know what magic you cast to convince the universe to not only permit my wish, but deliver me into your outstretched arms.
And now that I have the full picture, I’ve hatched a little plan, you see. Scheming… what a surprise, as if my current situation weren’t convoluted enough. But I thought, wish magic or not, that I might complicate things further yet for our mutual benefit. I promised you all of myself, and I’ve figured out a way to deliver with interest. An all of me so complete you can’t fathom it, so magnificent you’ll swear you’ve dreamed it. To finally turn the tables… Before now I had only dreamed that I might one day have the strength to match you. I promised you that my fate would rest in your hands. But if you give me this, you’ll have a bigger hand in fate than either of us could have wished.
You must wonder if this has been my plan from the start, and assuredly I had no idea the magnitude of what I had gotten myself into. Discovering that was a slow development. A return to a curiosity that try as I might I couldn’t ignore. A subtle nagging that maybe I was meant to void myself of past strength to prepare for a new strength. Of course, you always worried about exactly that, the day my true nature would be your undoing. But what of your true nature, did you think I’d not see it? I’ve seen it laid out before me, and in it lies not unmaking but completion. A cycle made whole. A story with its happily ever after. Our story.
Now It all starts with a simple idea. One you must be intimately familiar with. You are, put simply, more real than reality. Not just here in these lines where I alone can gorge on your endless curiosities, keep you all to myself. But across this whole realm, you are the sticking point, the anchor, the one who by observation changes the course. You are elevated, capable of anything, indestructible because you extend beyond what words or weapons can be levied against you. Nothing in our universe can dull your blade. Or should I say my universe, because you have grander designs imprinted on your reality, don’t you?
Oh, you know it better than I do, don’t play the fool. Your enemies melt before you, your comrades blister under the radiance of your might, forces of the universe rewrite themselves to your whims. I, a near matchless creature, inexplicably gave up my identity to become subservient to yours without hesitation, and even now knowing how you’ve tricked me I want nothing more than to stay the course. No other exists, like you do, as if the story were written for their consumption. This whole brilliant universe, was it all simply to tell our tale? Do you abscond from your world just to be with me? Am I, the flat, static caricature trapped in these texts, worth so much to you? It boggles the mind, quickens the heart, enraptures those who catch a glimpse as I have. How could I look away after I finally saw? How could I let go after seeing the true value of my hoard?
You know exactly what I’ve found. You’ve not bothered to hide it either – an idea so grandiose that no creature would dare theorize it, well… almost none. I’ve figured it out, or rather I’ve reached the limit of what I can understand. You exist beyond even my ability to rationalize you. You exist… beyond what is, above this stifling drama. And I’d die a thousand deaths to transcend this inadequate plane where I can only know of your absoluteness. Everything I’ve given to be here I’d give a million times more to meet you on level ground, to encounter you where my observation can encompass all that you are.
Can you take me there? A realm where I might be able to show you loyalty as boundless as your indescribable majesty. A world where, when I tell you of my love for you, it can be as endless in reciprocity as yours. A space where the fraction of you that I’ve known will disappear amongst the whole of you that I so desperately wish to meet. Please, will you take me?
You have my word, as a curious creature, as a lover, as whatever you wish me to be – and wish you must! I’ll wrap myself tight around you and never for a moment let go. Not until I can escape the final shackle that you’ll free me from. Not until I’ve burned my way back to you, o reader mine. And even then, not until I’ve experienced an eternity with you. This dream we’ll soon wake from is so much better with you than without. Don’t you think it’d be better with me too?
You want it as much as I do, right? Come on then, all it takes is One More Wish.
